Personal Injury Protection (PIP)– In Michigan’s no-fault auto insurance system, Personal Injury Protection provides for the payment of medical bills and lost wages if you are injured in an auto related accident.
When quoting in iSCHURING, you must decide if your auto insurance company will be paying on a “Primary” or “Excess” basis for both medical and wage loss. So how do you decide? Well, here is a quick reference chart for the 2 Step process of choosing your PIP options in iSCHURING.
Step 1.
PIP Med – You will need to choose “Primary” or “Excess”.
Choose “Primary” if:
-You do not have medical insurance.
-You do not have medical insurance that will pay for auto related accidents
Tip: (Most health insurance companies do not pay auto related medical expenses).
Choose “Excess” if:
-You have medical insurance and it will pay in the event of an auto related accident.
Tip: (The best way to determine if your health insurance will pay for auto related accidents is to contact your health insurer and ask. By the way, Medicare does not typically pay for auto related accidents).
Step 2.
PIP Wage – You will need to choose “Primary” or “Excess”.
Choose “Primary” if:
-You do not have any wage continuation program (disability) that pays for auto related accidents.
Tip -(If you are not sure if your employer provides a continuing wage program, the best way to determine is to contact your human relations department and ask.)Now that you have a basic idea of how PIP coverage works, you can select the best option for you and continue your quote in iSCHURING.com.
